Nicolas Carone: What Matters
New York
Loretta Howard GalleryJune 6 – July 26
What happens when we embrace mistakes as eternal mutations?
Apparition fractures rationality. It was a calling for an ancient tale,
Told by non-sequential images, breeding, multiplying for
The sake of history and redemption. We mourn Lost Tribe
While searching for the language of feeling or how to surrender
To Platonic ideals of autonomous actions of Gods and heroes.
Virtuous Saints in popularity contest with the supreme antihero
That bore Byronic syndromes, feeding the imagination
With restless spirits, nameless faces, endless torsos, dismembered
Limbs, abdomen, trapezoids, pelvises, and internal organs,
All to be drawn at the expense of remarkable memory.
Mixing eros with matters of excess, compression of flesh
Against calligraphic gesture, formidable mass against fullness
Of volume, orgiastic excavation. His appeal to mythology is
A necessary inception: singular, complex, Herculean.
